Somerton festival celebrates another year of success

The Somerton Music and Arts Festival, which took place this July, drew visitors from across Somerset as well as local residents who enjoyed a wide range of events. The festival was preluded in May, with the Arts Exhibition showcasing exceptional pieces from talented local artists. During the festival fortnight itself, the town came alive with music in the pubs, engaging community events and a variety of entertainment for all ages. Highlights included the popular Festival Quiz, an insightful talk on the Mysteries of Somerset by local author Dorothy Stewart, a stirring performance by Berties Big Band, and another side-splitting farce presented by the Somerton Dramatic Society. The festivities culminated on July 10th and 11th with a spectacular Somerstock, held under glorious summer skies, with fantastic music covering a wide range of genres, fun for all the family and a magical moment with football being shown on a large screen when Jude Bellingham scored his equalising goal accompanied by The Beatles Dub Club belting out ‘Hey Jude’.

“We couldn’t have planned it better if we’d scripted it”, says festival chairman Fred Bassett. “It was a fantastic way to end the festival.”

Planning for the 2027 festival is already underway, ensuring Somerton continues its proud tradition of bringing the community together.
