Somerstock donates £1,000 to Motor Neurone Disease Association

 

Somerstock has donated £1,000 to the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA), supporting people living with motor neurone disease and their families in Somerset and beyond.

The donation follows this year’s Somerstock festival and has a particularly personal connection for the Somerstock team. Committee member Emma Burton’s husband, Kevin, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease last year and is a member of the local MND support group which meets monthly at Palmers Garden Centre in Yeovil.

Kevin (second from right) recently presented the £1,000 cheque on behalf of Somerstock to Andy, who runs the support group.

The donation will help the MNDA provide practical support and equipment to people living with MND, as well as contributing towards research into the disease.

Andy said:

“This will help make a real difference to the lives of people affected by MND, through enabling someone to have a voice to communicate with loved ones, equipment to make it possible to move around home and enjoy the outdoors, or funding vital research to take us closer to a cure.”

Emma said: “Having Kevin diagnosed with MND has obviously made this cause particularly close to our hearts,” said Emma. “We know from first-hand experience how much support means to people living with this devastating disease, so we’re really pleased that Somerstock is able to make this donation and I am particularly grateful to the Somerstock committee for making this possible.”

The Somerstock committee hopes the donation will help the MNDA continue providing the practical, emotional and financial support that people with MND and their families need.
