Matt Owens & the Delusional Vanity Project (Saturday – Main Stage)
British-born musician Matt Owens is three albums into his solo career, unjaded, thoroughly enjoying himself and currently in the throes of recording his fourth. He first came to prominence as a founder member of indie-folk band Noah and the Whale.
Noah and the Whale achieved huge success in the UK and overseas with four their albums, selling over one million albums in the UK alone. The band toured the world between 2006 and 2014, playing hundreds of festivals as well as touring with the likes of Arcade Fire, Bahamas, and Laura Marling.
Whilst for the last five years Matt has been establishing his solo credentials through relentless touring, he has also been in high in demand as a songwriter, producer and session player working with, amongst many others, Thea Gilmore, Robert Vincent, Hannah White, Elles Bailey and The Korgis.
It was back in February 2019 that Matt’s debut solo album, “Whiskey and Orchids” was released to widespread critical acclaim including a 5-star review in Maverick Magazine. 2020 saw the release of Matt’s second album “Scorched Earth”, to a fanfare of acclaim from the music press. Many BBC Radio shows made it their album of the week, Bob Harris included Cargo for the Road on his first “Best of Under the Apple Tree” compilation and the album went on to feature in many Americana album of the year polls.
In Autumn 2022 Matt released “Beer For The Horses,” cut live with his all-star band The Delusional Vanity Project which features members of The Leylines, Clemencie, Danny and the Champs, Tree Top Flyers, and Little Mammoths. The collection of songs is his most accessible and rocking to date and received rave reviews from Americana UK and heavy rotation from radio with his lead single Go Easy on Yourself, Numbered Days, and the title track. His fourth album is slated to be out later this year. Matt will be back with the Delusional Vanity Project at Somerstock in 2024.
